As I have mentioned before on this blog, Nunavut is a federal electoral district that has often had very pragmatic MPs. In the past Nunavut federal riding has been considered a bellwether riding and it tends to elect people who can influence their caucus, parliament and government with a goal to represent the needs of the people of Nunavut.
With a whopping 2,093,000 square kilometres, Nunavut federal riding is the most massive riding by geographic size. It is also has the most Indigenous people by per capita. For most of it's history, this artic riding has had a member in the governing caucus. With the NDP catching holding the riding for periods in between.
New Liberal MP Lori Idlout who is Inuk bring the federal Liberal Indigenous Caucus to six MPs, this is the first time the Liberal Caucus has had an Inuk MP since former MP, Hon. Hunter Tootoo. The Conservative party maintains it's four Indigenous MPs, two First Nation and two Inuit. The NDP maintain it's one First Nations MPs Leah Gazan (Winnipeg Centre). The House is down one Indigenous MP with Bloc First Nations MP Simon-Pierre Savard-Tremblay leaving in May 2026.

Changes to Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs (INAN) makes changes with the addition of Lori Idlout and . With Liberal MP Jaime Battiste and Conservative MP Billy Morin, that brings three Indigenous MPs now sitting in the INAN committee. The Liberal presence on INAN increased by one seat to 7 Liberals, Four Conservatives and one Bloc member.
